[국제]No news of rescue from collapse of US apartment… “Fire continues in rubble”

[앵커]
A search operation continues for three days at the site of the collapse of a 12-story apartment building in Florida, USA, but there has been no news of the rescue of survivors.

The fire continues deep in the rubble where no ignition point can be found, slowing the search and rescue operations.

Let’s connect with a correspondent at the site of the collapse. Correspondent Kang Tae-wook!

Rescue operations are ongoing, and there are no news about additional lives yet, right?

[기자]
It’s past 6pm here.

Search and rescue operations continue last night and into this morning.

In addition, there are no reports of deaths or missing persons.

In the morning, the county chief in charge of the area briefed the news.

As with yesterday, there are 4 deaths and 159 missing.

What is the situation at the accident site? Are you accelerating your work?

[기자]
Starting this morning, two large cranes were mobilized to lift the concrete piles.

Because of this, the broadcasters who continued to report on the way back and forth have been pushed to the south of this place now that the scene is not immediately visible.

Search and rescue operations are still slow.

County officials said the fire, which began deep in the rubble, was interfering with rescue operations, making it very difficult to determine the source of the fire.

In addition, intermittent heavy rain is also hindering the search operation.

Authorities are focusing on finding a place for survivors to hide in the rubble.

There is an analysis that the so-called pancake collapse is the reason why the search and rescue of survivors are difficult?

[기자]
It is said that it collapsed into the shape of stacked pancakes.

The collapse occurred in such a way that all the layers fell almost horizontally with the ground, and the weight transferred to the ground beneath the last one surged.

In addition, due to the collapse of several layers, there is not enough space to evacuate in the rubble, so casualties are inevitably greater than other collapses.

However, another urban rescue expert believes other signs of collapse may have been found, creating space for survivors.

There are also analyzes that there is room for evidence of four types of collapse: ‘V-shaped collapse’ and ‘cantilever collapse’ in which one wall is broken and the other wall is intact.
