The Qatar soccer team beat Granada 0-4 this Saturday on the second day of Group D of the sixteenth edition of the Gold Cup and was placed at the top of the provisional classification with four points.
Tonight the teams of Honduras and Panama will complete the day with the second game that will be of great importance for both Central American teams in order to qualify for the quarterfinals.
The duel between Granada and Qatar was a real football nonsense on the part of the Antillean team that limited itself to running around the field against an opponent who put the few football ideas that were given on the pitch of BBVA Stadium in Houston.
But above all the goals, although if he had taken advantage of the opportunities that the scoreboard had, it would have been a scandal.
However, the Qatari team, led by Spanish coach Félix Sánchez, achieved the main objective, which was to win by a wide score that can serve them when the first round is completed in the event of a tie in the classification.
Honduras also beat Granada 4-0 in the first match of Group D, while Qatar drew 3-3 with Panama.
Qatar soon took the lead when Abdelaziz made it 0-1 at minute 11 and at 22 it was 0-2 through Akram Afif.
While Mohamed Muntarí headed, at 36, put the 0-3, which would be the result with which the break was reached after Al Moez Ali alone against the Granada goalkeeper, Jason Belfon, who was the best of his team, I throw the ball out when the hardest thing to do.
But the Qatari player claimed as soon as the second half began, at minute 46, by scoring 0-4, which would be the final result.
With the triumph, Qatar will decide its future in the competition when on the third and last day it faces Honduras, especially if Panama, who will rival Granada, eliminated, gets the victory in tonight’s duel against the Catrachos.
The doubleheader matches of the third and final day of Group D will be played next Tuesday on the same stage at BBVA Stadium in Houston.
