100 years – and a bus driver with body and soul

The retired bus driver Johann Holzer turned an unbelievable 100 years old today, March 23. And where did he celebrate his 100th? That’s right – in the Graz Linien bus center on Kärntner Strasse.

From September 1, 1946 to September 30, 1981, Johann Holzer, born on March 23, 1923, was an employee of the then GVB (Grazer Verkehrsbetriebe/now Graz Linien). First briefly as a conductor and tram driver and then for a long time as a bus driver – his passion. He drove on all lines at that time, he was also on the road with the trolleybuses.

The sprightly celebrant is particularly proud of the vote for the friendliest bus driver, which he once won three times. His biggest wish for a 100? “I’d like to sit behind the wheel of a bus again for a moment!” No sooner said than done – Holzer was allowed to climb into the cockpit of a bus this morning in the Graz Linien bus center. Holding Graz CEO Mark Perz didn’t miss it either – and ORF Styria also filmed the jubilee.

Fortunately, Holzer never had an accident, his favorite routes were once those to the outskirts – “to the foot of the Leber, to Thalersee, to Ragnitz, and to Stifting.” Incidentally, when he started at GVB, there were only three bus routes…

Congratulations!
