Another 147,000 Russian citizens are to be called up for regular military service this spring, according to an order signed by President Putin. This is stated by Russian media according to The Guardian.
As late as September, orders were given for the mobilization of 120,000 citizens. At the time, the Ministry of Defense claimed that there was no connection to the “special operation” in Ukraine.
Eastern Europe expert Jakob Hedenskog tells Dagens Nyheter that around 100,000 untrained conscripts were sent to the front, but that most of them died, were injured or needed to be replaced.
