15 Best Universities in ASEAN Version of QS AUR 2023, Are There Indonesian Campuses?


The best universities in Southeast Asia or ASEAN are not inferior in quality to campuses in developed Asian countries such as Japan or South Korea. This is shown in the 2023 QS Asia University Ranking (QS AUR) list issued by the rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds.

QS has released a ranking every year since 2009. The assessment is almost similar to the QS World University Rankings methodology. It’s just that there are a number of additional indicators and adjusted weights.

So, which campuses in the ASEAN region are included in the best list of the QS AUR 2023 version?

From the data above, three campuses from two neighboring countries, namely Singapore and Malaysia, are included in the top ten best universities in Asia. While universities from Indonesia are still ranked 49th.

QS AUR Rating Indicator 2023

The 2023 QS AUR ranking includes eleven indicators, namely academic reputation with a weight of 30 percent, employer reputation with a weight of 20 percent, international research networks with a weight of 10 percent, faculty/student ratio with a weight of 10 percent, citations per paper weight with 10 percent, staff with a PhD degree with a weight of 5 percent, then papers per faculty weigh 5 percent.

Other indicators are the proportion of international students weighing 2.5 percent, the proportion of international faculties weighing 2.5 percent, inbound exchange students weighing 2.5 percent, and outbound exchange students weighing 2.5 percent.
