3 good reasons to watch The Plot Against America on OCS

From this Tuesday, March 17, 2020, OCS begins broadcasting The Plot Against America, the dystopian series that revisits the history of the United States.

Because it’s uchronia and everyone likes it

It is an absolutely universal fact that cannot be disputed: everyone loves uchronia. So what is an uchronia? It is a work of fiction that revisits the history of our world by altering an event and telling a story that describes its consequences. The most famous is without a doubt The Master of the High Castle, written by Philippe K. Dick and adapted in the series The Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime Video, which explores the possibility that Nazi Germany would have won World War II.

Today we are interested in the second most famous uchronia: The Plot Against America, written by Philip Roth and whose serial adaptation arrives tonight on OCS. In this alternative United States, Franklin Roosevelt lost the presidential elections to Charles Lindbergh, a former Nazi sympathetic aviator, conservative, xenophobic and populist politician. A president who will strengthen fascism in America and plunge the country into chaos.

Because there is a very nice cast

The Plot Against America, it is also and above all a cast of madness. In the main roles, we find in particular the excellent Winona Ryder who had a very good career in the years 1980-1990, appearing in particular in Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Dracula, Alien, the resurrection, before returning to the forefront in recent years by taking a title role in Stranger Things on Netflix. She is notably accompanied by Zoe Kazan, known for her roles in Her name is Ruby, Les Noces rebelles, Olive Kitteridge or more recently The Deuce, and John Turturro, who we have already seen in The Big Lebowski, Transformers, O’Brothers or The Night Of. So there are beautiful people in front of the camera.

Behind the camera, there are professionals of the small screen! At the helm, we find David Simon, screenwriter on works that have marked the world of series: The Wire (Listening, in French), Show Me a Hero and The Deuce. He is assisted by Ed Burns, who also worked on the show The Wire. No doubt that The Plot Against America is in good hands.

Because we must put the Coronavirus into perspective

Two possibilities. The first: you are confined to your home and need to occupy yourself while waiting to be able to put your nose outside. In that case, The Plot Against America will give you something to do for six episodes of about an hour. And we’re not talking about occupying yourself for the sake of occupying yourself, but rather having fun with probably one of the best series of the moment.

The second: you need to think of something other than that damn Coronavirus. The best way to reduce your anxiety is to revel in a situation that’s even worse than yours. The Plot Against America telling the dystopian story of a nation falling into the clutches of fascism, the series will undoubtedly make you forget all your everyday problems!
