Gaza City, Gaza Strip (AP) – The Palestinian Ministry of Health says three people have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza.
Israeli military said Palestinians in Gaza fired gunfire at soldiers near the border. It is said that it has responded to militant targets in Gaza with air strikes and tank bombardment.
Gaza media reported that two of the dead were Hamas fighters and that gunmen fired mortars against the border.
Hamas, the militant group that governs Gaza, has held weekly protests on the Gaza border since March 30. The rallies are aimed in part at alerting to the Israeli-Egyptian blockade after Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007.
Over 135 Palestinians, mostly unarmed, have been killed by Israeli fire since the protests began.
Israel says that it defends its sovereign frontier and accuses Hamas, a group sworn to its destruction, of using the protests as cover for attempts to carry out attacks.
