JAKARTA – Samsung reportedly working on developing a 6G network, this is based on the release of the company’s latest paper outlining plans for a next-generation internet network standard.
Adapted from Gizmochina, Saturday (14/5/2022), the paper is entitled “6G Spectrum: Expanding the Frontier” which offers amazing speeds even though the 5G network is not evenly distributed.
In his paper, Samsung’s Executive Vice President and Head of the Communication Research Center, Sunghyun Choi, said that his party had long been developing a 6G super-fast internet network.
He promised that he would share the results of the development of the 6G internet network to provide an internet experience at an unprecedented speed to help life.
“We have started our journey long ago to understand, develop and standardize 6G communication technology,” said Sunghyun.
“We are committed to leading and sharing our findings to spread our vision of bringing the next hyper-connected experience to every corner of life.”
Furthermore, the paper reveals that the 6G network will offer internet speeds of up to 1 Terabit per second (Tbps).
That figure, is known to be 50 times faster than 5G networks that only offer 20Gbps.
Samsung claims, during tests that took place in June 2021, the 6G network managed to show 6Gbps data speeds at a distance of 15 meters indoors. At a distance of 30 meters, the speed reaches 12Gbps.
In fact, at a distance of 120 meters, the data speed still reaches 2.3Gbps.
Samsung said the internet network it developed requires spectrum with ultra wideband bandwidth ranging from hundreds of MHz to tens of GHz.
This will enable high-fidelity mobile holograms as well as truly immersive extended reality (XR).
Samsung plans to share more details and findings of its 6G research in the future.
