9 Countries Start Opening Doors for Indonesian Citizens, Singaporeans to the European Union

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

A number of countries are starting to open border after more than a year of shutting down to contain the spread Covid-19.

The move was taken to patch up the economy that had been devastated by the pandemic.

Several countries have begun to dare to open their doors again for foreign arrivals, including for Indonesian citizens, after seeing a decrease in the number of Covid-19 cases to an increase in vaccinations.

The following is a list of countries that allow setting foot in the region:

Singapore

Singapore plans to allow Indonesian citizens to enter from November 29 through the Vaccination Travel Lane (VTL) scheme.

The Singapore Ministry of Health has updated Indonesia’s health status to Category II since last November 12. Indonesian citizens can also apply for an entry permit starting November 22.

Through VTL travel arrangements, travelers from Indonesia who have been fully vaccinated can enter Singapore without going through quarantine by showing a negative PCR result, and being tested again upon arrival in the country.

Singapore provides a quota of 10 thousand foreign tourists per day from all countries that receive VTL.

However, travelers still have to ask for an entry permit from the Singapore government before visiting.

Malaysia

Malaysia is said to be allowing foreign tourists to visit the country starting January 1, 2022.

One of the first travel corridors to be opened is between Malaysia and Indonesia.

On Wednesday (10/11), the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, approved the plan to reopen the travel corridor arrangement (TCA) with Indonesia.

The opening of the travel corridor will start from Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur-Bali.

If all the requirements and affairs have been completed, continued Ismail, a joint statement will soon be issued regarding the opening of the Indonesia-Malaysia border.

Thailand

The Thai government introduced a Sandbox program that allows fully vaccinated visitors to enter the country without quarantine.

For tourists who have not been vaccinated, they must undergo a ten-day quarantine period in a hotel in Bangkok.

Cambodia

Cambodia has allowed fully vaccinated foreign tourists to enter the country without quarantine from November 15.

The move refers to regulation No. 449 dated November 15 from the Ministry of Health and the Inter-Ministerial Commission Against Covid-19.

However, visitors must also meet a number of conditions such as having a vaccine card, negative PCR test results for Covid-19 72 hours before departure, rapid tests after arriving in the country.

For those who have not been vaccinated, visitors are required to do a PCS test upon arrival and undergo a two-week quarantine.
