Employees to whom the online self-assessment tool at www.masante.belgique.be advises to be tested for Covid-19 will now automatically receive a certificate of absence for their employer, the ministers of Public health Frank Vandenbroucke and Labor Pierre-Yves Dermagne.
The aim of the measure is to lighten the workload of general practitioners in this particularly difficult period, they comment.
Since November 3, anyone with mild symptoms can do a self-assessment and, if necessary, immediately generate an activation code to take a free screening test at a pharmacy or testing center.

From now on, employees will no longer have to call on their attending physician to justify their absence from work while the test is being carried out. Thanks to the initiative of the National Labor Council, which on Friday approved a draft collective labor agreement to this effect, they will automatically receive a certificate of absence for their employer when they obtain a test code.
The objective of the measure is to reduce the pressure on general practitioners and to prevent contaminated employees from going to their workplace. The certificate will indicate the day and time when the activation code was issued and is valid as a certificate of absence for the duration necessary (maximum 36 hours) to be tested at the pharmacist or in a test center.

The employee is required to immediately inform the employer, to send him the certificate and to be tested as soon as possible. Employees who can telecommute will be allowed to be absent for the time needed to take the test. Then they will have to resume remote work until the test result is known.
They will then inform their employer of the resumption of work or the continuation of their absence due to illness. In order to ensure respect for privacy, however, employees are not required to disclose the results of the self-assessment or the test to them.

If the result of the test is positive, the employee must isolate himself at home and contact the attending physician who will ensure follow-up. The CTC came into effect on Friday and will expire on February 28. During this period, an employee will be able to use the possibility of taking time off work for a Covid test at most three times by using the self-assessment tool.
