The motorist’s lawyer, hit by police shootings on the night of August 15 to 16, in Stains (Seine-Saint-Denis) announced this Thursday that he had filed a complaint against the Paris police headquarters and its spokesperson for “dissemination of false news”, after images, the existence of which was revealed by Le Monde, and disseminated by France Inter, question the version given by the prefecture a few hours after the facts.

New images

On the morning of August 16, images circulating on social networks, and posted online by “L’Echo des banlieues”, which presents itself as a “independent neighborhood media”, showed police officers from the anti-crime squad of Stains shooting a car eight times. The context and the reason for this police intervention are difficult to understand in these images. The officials are dressed in civilian clothes, do not wear any distinctive signs, and have not activated their flashing lights on their unmarked car.

At midday, still on August 16, the Paris police headquarters in turn broadcasts, via its Twitter account, a video of his spokesperson, presented as giving “decryption elements”. For a minute, Laetitia Vallar explains what the prefecture says it knows “at this stage” of this intervention: “Following a refusal to comply, the police came to check the driver of a vehicle who, after switching off the ignition, switched on the ignition and suddenly reversed, hitting the police officer who was in protection”.

Or, the video, which shows what happened just before the images relayed many times on August 16, contradicts this version : on these, neither of the two police officers is hit by the car targeted.

Were the officials hit by the car?

In his complaint, which France Inter was able to consult, the motorist’s lawyer, Me Yassine Bouzrou, underlines the fact thatneither of the two officials, when they lodged a complaint, claimed to have been hit by his client’s vehicle. In this same complaint, the lawyer adds that a third police officer, present on the scene, and who did not use his weapon, did not indicate to have been hit by the car either. However, believes Me Bouzrou, the video of the police headquarters having been posted online at 12:19, the institution would have had all the time to conduct the necessary checks before disseminating his explanation on social networks.

Also in this video “decryption”, the spokesperson for the police headquarters continues: “The second policeman who was in contact with the driver of the vehicle tried to stop the vehicle and was dragged for several meters by the driver of the vehicle who went forward“. However, the video of the intervention shows this same official in the white T-shirt voluntarily entering the passenger compartment first of the affected car, by sitting down on the window ledge on the driver’s side, then alighting as the driver engages forward gear. Asked, the police headquarters did not wish to react to our request.

Judicial information opened, the IGPN seized

The driver and his passenger were seriously injured during these shots, the police officers slightly injured. A judicial investigation was opened in this case for “willful violence with a weapon by a person responsible for public order”, while the motorist and his companion are targeted by an investigation for “refusal to comply” and ” attempted homicide on a person holding public authority “. The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) is also seized.
