A medal for Switzerland

Orienteering – The Swiss men’s team with Daniel Hubmann, Florian Howald and Matthias Kyburz won the bronze medal at the European Orienteering Championships in Rakvere (Estonia).

The Swiss men were beaten by the superior Norwegians (gold) and the Swedes (silver), who even brought two teams ahead of the Swiss relay. “After the difficult preparation and less than optimal individual runs, third place is a conciliatory conclusion to this European Championship,” summarized final runner Matthias Kyburz, who confidently defended the bronze place.

There was no medal for the women. Several small mistakes on the first two replacements threw the Swiss back. Final runner Simona Aebersold improved briefly to third place in the finish, but she also lost valuable seconds at a longer fork at the end of the route, so that Sweden (1st), the Czech Republic (2nd) and Norway (3rd) shared the lead secured medals.
