On the menu: two festivals, a series of jazz concerts and a video clip of Gruff Rhys.
A FESTIVAL: Mythos to Rennes , until April 22
After Les Transmusicales, in early December 2017, and all its rock discoveries, then Jazz upstairs, almost throughout the month of March 2018, Rennes continues to be a festival town in terms of music with Mythos, started on April 13 and should be finish Sunday 22. Not content to be the singer of the group Super Furry Animals, figure brit pop for almost three decades, the Welsh Gruff Rhys leads at the same time a solo career no less enviable, praised for its inventive qualities, exotic and even playful. His fifth opus, entitled Babelsberg , is announced for June 8 at Rough Trade and produced by Ali Chant, already of the adventure on the previous album, the conceptual American Interior (2014). About the origin of the title strange of the album, its author explains: “I was looking for a name that evoked the Tower of Babel – people building towers in order to access a certain idea of ​​paradise (but perhaps leading to a sort of hell – I am an atheist by the way!). In any case, I wrote the word Babelsberg on a note and when I listened to the songs together, it finally made sense of everything I had done. ” The first excerpt Frontier Man opens the ball in the style of a classy folk sixties ballad, set with majestic strings performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. A SERIES OF CONCERTS: the trumpet player Keyon Harrold, to the Duc des Lombards, to Paris , April 17 to 19
Trumpet player who has accompanied on record or touring stars of r’n’b, hip hop or current soul (Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, Common … ) but who also did his apprenticeship in rigorous jazz formations (Count Basie Orchestra, Roy Hargrove’s bands, Billy Harper …), Keyon Harrold, born in 1980, made his debut in the 2000s. is however lately that it raises the excitement in the music press in the United States, the radius of the “new artists on which it will be necessary”, because of the exit, at the end of September 2017, of a second album as a leader, The Mugician (Mass Appeal Records-Legacy / Sony Music).
We hear a trumpet sound reminiscent of Miles Davis, crossings between jazz, rock, funk, reggae, rap, string arrangements, with many guests including Gary Clark Jr., Bilal and Robert Glasper. Keyon Harrold comes present his album in Europe during a short tour, started on April 10th and which should end on the 21st. With passage, three nights in a row, at the Duc des Lombards, in Paris, with his band composed of pianist Shedrick Mitchell, guitarist Nir Felder, bassist Burniss Travis and drummer Charles Haynes. TO RESERVE: Download Festival, in Brétigny-sur-Orge, from June 15th to 18th
In June 2017, under a blazing sun and decibels, the second French edition of the Download Festival had successfully gathered 120,000 spectators on the former 217 airbase Brétigny-sur-Orge (Essonne). For this 2018 edition, scheduled for June 15 to 18, the rock, alternative and metal event organized by Live Nation la France , the hexagonal subsidiary of the world’s number 1 in concert production, counts well cross the symbolic landing of 150,000 spectators. Thanks in particular to programming which now spans four days and will welcome more than 70 artists out of 5 scenes .
With, of course, headliners at the height of expectation, to start by the legendary “Madman” Ozzy Osbourne (15) record holder of the farewell tours since 1992 and his No More Tour; the other prince of darkness Marilyn Manson (16), the very popular Foo Fighters led by Dave Grohl (17) and the return of Guns N’Roses after their stint at the Stade de France last summer (18). But also the Californian punks of The Offspring and the furious Scandinavians The Hives, the veterans hexagonal nude metal Mass Hysteria, the cerebral Meshuggah and Opeth, the hardcore references Converge, or even the beasts Frank box & The Rattlesnakes and Turbonegro … The organization promises a new scenography always inspired by the theme of aeronautics, as well as a shaded space provided with watering, to overcome a possible heatwave. Transport : RER C (30 minutes from Paris). Free shuttles will be put in place to go and come back from the air base from the station.
