A roadmap for industrial projects between the UAE, Egypt and Jordan

The first meeting of the Tripartite Higher Committee for the Integrated Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development, signed between the United Arab Emirates, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, was held in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology in the UAE, and His Excellency Nevin Jameh, Minister of Commerce and Industry in Egypt, and His Excellency Youssef Al-Shamali, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply in Jordan.
The Ministers discussed the roadmap and time plan for implementing the initiatives related to the partnership with the necessary speed and readiness, linking them to mechanisms for measuring performance indicators, in addition to creating a mechanism for the governance of the integrated industrial partnership, leading to the tasks of the committees (the Higher Committee and the Executive Committee), to ensure the achievement of the required courses of action.
The meeting also discussed mechanisms for expanding the partnership by joining new members, accelerating the pace of economically feasible opportunities under the umbrella of the industrial sector in the three countries, facilitating cooperation and integration by involving more sectors, and coordinating with work teams that include government agencies and the private sector to listen to their visions and expectations. To grow through this tripartite partnership, focusing on the importance of the private sector’s participation and its important role in activating this industrial partnership that focuses on five sectors including agriculture, food, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, textiles, minerals, and petrochemicals.
The meeting approved the selection of Omar Al-Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, as Secretary-General of the Tripartite Higher Committee. The Executive Committee will continue its work, and the Higher Committee will meet next month to follow up on the progress of work to achieve the objectives of the partnership.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, said: “In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology in the UAE seeks to enhance industrial integration with Arab countries and the rest of the world. Countries of the world, in order to achieve a qualitative leap in the sector at the level of the UAE and the region. This partnership focuses on benefiting from the areas of integration, competitive advantages and unique capabilities of each of the three brotherly countries, so that this step will be the nucleus of a larger partnership that contributes to building a sustainable economic base.
His Excellency highly valued the vision, support and encouragement of the senior leadership in the three countries for this partnership, noting the professionalism and empowerment of the work teams in the three countries, which reflects the common concern to speed up the partnership’s procedures and mechanisms, as well as the speed of response in order to exploit opportunities with positive economic returns in the medium and long term. In addition to taking procedural steps by the three partners, following up on feasibility studies, monitoring challenges and possibilities for the implementation of projects immediately, in addition to adopting an integrated industrial partnership strategy, and enabling private sector entities to implement their own investment projects.
His Excellency pointed out that this partnership reflects the UAE’s commitment to establishing quality partnerships regionally and globally, in a way that consolidates the position of the state and its role in achieving a qualitative leap in the industrial sector and enabling industrial investors to launch towards global markets, benefiting from the complementary components provided by the three countries in terms of logistics and infrastructure. Developed and modern transportation networks and the availability of raw materials and infrastructure, ensuring flexibility in supply chains, stimulating sustainable economic growth, and enhancing value-added industries for the economies of the three countries.

tasks of the Committee
The Supreme Committee is concerned with a set of tasks, most notably enabling private sector entities to implement partnership investment projects, by involving companies interested in investing and cooperating in the main sectors in the three sister countries, determining feasibility studies for priority projects at the level of the three countries, and developing a road map for the implementation of projects with priority within the first stage, as well as monitoring the most important challenges and possibilities to stimulate industrial investment in partnership with the private sector, in order to identify and enable the elements for the implementation of priority projects.
It is noteworthy that the three countries, the UAE, Egypt and Jordan, possess a set of resources and unique competitive advantages that include the availability of raw materials and raw materials, such as energy resources in the UAE, fertile agricultural lands in Egypt, and minerals in both Egypt and Jordan.. These countries also have strong capabilities In the field of pharmaceutical industries and the possibility of their development and expansion, increasing their production capacity, and important manufacturing capabilities in the fields of aluminum, iron, petrochemicals, and others.
