The Army Museum and the Fondation Napoléon launch an international subscription to renovate the tomb of Napoleon I to the Invalides and those of his brothers report Point.
"Wear, inherent to a historical monument receiving more than one million visitors a year, and the absence of restoration for a century now make these operations indispensable," says the museum of the Army to the newspaper.
"A Napoléon season in 2021"
The goal: to have renovated these tombs by 2021 where we will celebrate the bicentenary of the death of the emperor. A "Napoléon season" will be organized for the occasion with exhibitions and concerts.
If the sarcophagus of Napoleon is in good condition, soils marquetry stone, enamel and marble were damaged during falling stones of the dome. It is also planned to clean the tombs of the brothers of Napoleon I, the kings Joseph and Jerome, and to renovate tombstones repatriated from St. Helena in 1840.
All donations equal or superior to 1500 euros will be entitled to a commemorative medal specially struck for the occasion.
