The researchers analyzed several publications based on research studying the effects of a vegan diet on health. These studies, published between 1999 and 2017, involved a sample of 433 people with diabetes.

On the emotional level, symptoms of depression have largely decreased in patients on a vegan diet. Fasting mean glucose levels decreased significantly among people on a vegan diet. In addition, these same patients lost twice as much weight as patients on a diet that included animal protein. Fats in the blood have largely decreased in people following a vegan diet, but these fats in the blood can cause cardiovascular disease.
In six of the studies reviewed, patients on a vegan diet were able to reduce or even discontinue medication related to their diabetes.
A vegan diet can therefore greatly improve the quality of life of individuals, particularly individuals with type 2 diabetes.
