In a crime of gender violence, a woman was murdered by her partner Sunday night in the town of Mayagüez, police reported.

The events were reported at about 8:48 last night, in the Castillo de Mayagüez plots.

The alleged perpetrator of the crime was identified as Christian Rodríguez Rivera, 35, alias “Christian Bala,” who is currently serving a federal probe.

According to the preliminary investigation, Ashley Rodríguez Torres, 27, “shared with her children when her partner, identified as Christian Rodríguez, called her to come out of her residence.”

According to a radio interview (WKAQ 580), the Commissioner of the Police Bureau, Henry Escalera, a relative had taken the minors inside the residence before the murder took place.

In a press release, Police indicated that a “discussion” arose at that time when it is alleged that Rodríguez Rivera “subtracts a firearm by shooting him several times in different parts of the body, leaving the place at the moment his whereabouts are unknown.”

The woman was taken to the Mayagüez Medical Center, where she died while being treated by the doctor on duty.

Escalera said the man has a criminal record and is wanted by the authorities.

“Rodríguez Rivera has a criminal record for Murder and the Arms Law, at the moment he is under Federal Probation, he is armed and dangerous,” the Police said in a press release.

In addition to his state prosecution for murder, at the federal level he was convicted in 2015 on charges of distribution of controlled substances and possession of a firearm in the commission of a drug trafficking offense.

The Police called for anyone who has information that can help clarify this case or has additional information to be communicated confidentially through 787-343-2020 or the Mayagüez Homicide Division at 787-832- 9696 extension 1510-1511.
