AC Milan’s plan in the 2021/2022 transfer market: is there room for James? | A series

AC Milan can be the beginning of all solutions: fight for the local league title (it was second last season), it has a place in the Champions League, its style favors the talented and Calcio himself, who is less physically demanding than the Premier League, it is very attractive.

There are practically no buts in that option for James Rodríguez, except that for now the interest is nothing more than a press rumor and that the latest movements that the team has made in the market seem to prioritize other needs.

For starters, the attack is a subject almost covered, after a season with 74 goals scored and a difference of +33. There is Ibrahimovic, who is a guarantee despite his 39 years and still has one more year on his contract. But given his physical problems, there would already be an agreement with another number 9: Frenchman Olivier Giroud.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 34-year-old will sign for two years and in exchange for a salary of 3.3 million euros per season, plus bonuses.

And he would not be the only Chelsea player who would change league to Serie A, as a result of the great commercial relationship that exists with Milan. There would already be contacts with a creative, a direct rival for James’ position: Moroccan Hakim Ziyech. His lack of continuity with Tuchel has him at the starting gate, although there is a major obstacle: the 38 million euros that his transfer would cost. In any case, his profile likes him so much that the Italian club would think of a loan. After all, one more Chelsea player is also interested: defender Tiemoue Bakayoko.

In case of not reaching an agreement, the Colombian’s option would take force as a replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu, but it must be said that Coutinho and his injuries are the least threatening competition at this point: in the folder are also Rafinha, from Paris Saint- Germain, Thomas Lemar, from Atlético de Madrid, and Josip Ilicic, from Atalanta. In the past, there was also talk of Dani Ceballos (24 years old), Real Madrid, and even Mateo Kovacic (27 years old) as alternatives.

And one more detail: wages. It should be mentioned that only Ibrahimovic has a turnover of 7 million euros per season and that reduces the options in the market. James’ income would be around 5 million per year and it would be necessary to see if Milan is willing to assume that nominal burden. It is just the detail that plays against Coutinho, who has a turnover of about 12 million.

In addition, AC Milan already ‘broke the marranito’ in the current market by disbursing 32 million euros for Fikayo Tomori after the transfer from Chelsea.

So, on paper at least, the road to Italy is not exactly clear. Of course, he was not before towards the Bundesliga or towards the Premier and that speaks well of the management of agent Jorge Mendes. Will there be a new surprise on the market? Everything remains to be said …
