New York Islanders are said to be close to reaching a new deal with unrestricted free agent Matt Martin, reports The Athletic.

Martin has spent the last 2 seasons as well as 9 of his 11 campaigns in the National Hockey League with the Islanders. He scored 5 goals and collected 3 assists in 55 games last season in addition to adding 5 goals and 1 assist in 22 games during the return to play.

Seven teams were interested in Martin’s services, according to The Athletic, but the forward wanted to be back with the Islanders.

A 5th round pick by the Islanders in 2008, he had just completed the last year of a 4-year contract worth US $ 10 million signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016.

Mangiapane with the Flames for two years

The Calgary Flames have announced that forward Andrew Mangiapane has accepted a new two-season contract with the team.

Mangiapane will pocket $ 2.425 million for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 campaigns.

Playing much of the season alongside Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk, Mangiapane had 32 points (17-15) in 68 games last year.

The 24-year-old winger added five points (2-3) in 10 playoff games.

Patrick accepts the qualifying offer from the Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that forward Nolan Patrick has accepted the qualifying offer made to him earlier this month.

Patrick, the second overall pick in the 2017 draft, will be paid $ 874,125 in the next campaign.

The 22-year-old center has missed the entire 2019-20 season, and has 61 points in 145 NHL games since his debut in 2017-18.

Two more seasons for Carlsson

The Columbus Blue Jackets have granted defenseman Gabriel Carlsson a two-year contract extension. The pact is two-fold in the first year and one in the second.

Carlsson has 3 assists in 23 games since the start of his career in the National Hockey League. He made his debut at the end of the 2016-2017 campaign.

Sabourin in the organization of the Leafs

Forward Scott Sabourin signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Marlies.

Sabourin played 35 games with the Ottawa Senators last season, scoring 2 goals and having 4 assists. He has 37 goals and 40 assists in 308 career American Hockey League games.
