Adventurous escape and hiding in the corn field

Dangerous driving maneuvers in Mönchengladbach
Driver hides in the corn field after an adventurous escape

Several traffic violations, several criminal offenses and a broken rear axle – this chase through Mönchengladbach and on the motorway had far-reaching consequences.

A 31-year-old man fled the police twice in a car on Sunday before officers could arrest him in a corn field. As the police announced, a patrol had noticed a car at a red light at the intersection of Bismarckstrasse / Kaiserstrasse in the afternoon around 4.40 p.m. When the driver saw the police car, he looked visibly nervous. The officers then decided to check him out. But the driver stepped on the gas and violated a number of traffic regulations. Among other things, he ignored a red light.

The interim investigations revealed that the license plates on the car had been stolen the day before in Duisburg. Around 9:30 p.m., another police patrol discovered the car they were looking for on the A 52 in the direction of Düsseldorf. At the Mönchengladbach interchange, the driver took the A 44 in the direction of Krefeld. The suspect left the motorway in the Münchheide area. The driver again attracted attention for his grossly illegal and inconsiderate driving style.

The police went in pursuit with flashing lights and sirens. Shortly thereafter, there was a traffic accident between the chasing police car and the getaway car. The suspect’s car turned and the car drove away with a broken rear axle in the direction of the Münchheide II industrial estate.

Shortly afterwards, a police patrol found the damaged car abandoned on Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Strasse. The car was seized for the purpose of securing evidence.

Due to the proximity of the time, the police assume that the driver was hiding in the adjacent corn field. The officers cordoned off the area and searched the area. A police helicopter was also requested to provide assistance.

Before the helicopter arrived, the police were able to locate the alleged driver on the edge of the corn field and arrest them for the time being.

He is a 31-year-old man who has already appeared to the police. He does not have a valid driver’s license. After completing the police measures, he was released on Monday morning.

The 31-year-old is now being investigated for several crimes in the course of grossly illegal and reckless driving. Among other things because of dangerous interference in road traffic, driving without a license and misuse of license plates.
