The airline Aeromexico has opened this Wednesday the direct flight between Barcelona Y Mexico City, which will operate from this Wednesday three weekly flights from the airport Josep Tarradellas-El Prat to the Mexican capital.
The Catalan capital thus becomes the fifth destination of the Mexican airline in Europe and the second in Spain, and to cover the new international route between Barcelona and Mexico City will use the new aircraft Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
This new connection is part of the five objectives of the strategic plan of the Committee of Desenvolupament de Rutes, an entity that comprises the consistory, the Chamber of Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya and Aena.
In 2018, the connection Barcelona-Mexico City had a movement of 90,000 indirect passengers, and it is expected that with the start-up of this direct route the displacement will be facilitated to the 24,000 Mexicans residing in Barcelona and to the more than 450,000 tourists who arrive from Mexico to Spain each year.
According to the City Council data, Mexico is also the first destination for air cargo exports from Barcelona, which in 2017 reached 3,752 tonnes, 12% of total Spanish exports, worth 1,338 million euros.
