Texas, United States.- After a disappointing performance by kicker Brett Maher in the wild card round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys have added depth to the position by signing Tristan Vizcaino to the practice squad.
Vizcaino has been on four teams since 2020, including two different practice squads this season. This season, he made two field goals and all three extra points with the Cardinals and Patriots.
Despite Maher’s mistakes, the Cowboys have expressed their confidence in him. Special teams coordinator John Fassel said, “I believe in streaks and I believe in yips, absolutely. And you know, sometimes you wonder how you get to the yips and sometimes you wonder how you get back on the streak. I think you just have to keep getting closer to the line and shooting We missed a couple of free throws.Let’s face it, he just missed [six] kicks all season. The ‘yips’ happen, so I expect a streak to emerge.”
T.Y. Hilton, one of Maher’s teammates, showed his support for the kicker. He said, “That’s life, man. I mean, look at our first three plays. We all dropped three passes. It happens. And for him, man, after the second one, I just went up to him and said, ‘Cheer up. Hey, we’re with you. We’re fine. We’re fine.’ Keep letting him earn your trust. He just needs to see one come in and he’ll be fine. But that happens, man. Bad things happen, but we’ve got his back no matter what.”
The Dallas Cowboys have added Tristan Vizcaino to the practice squad to compete with Brett Maher for the divisional round match against the San Francisco 49ers. Both players have the support of their teammates and the coaching staff, and the Cowboys hope that this will help Maher get back on his winning streak.
