With these words, unveiling the poster of his 72e edition, the Cannes Film Festival said Monday, April 15 its enthusiasm to pay a bright tribute to the filmmaker Agnès Varda, died March 29 at 90 years.

The photo on the poster (the editing and the model were made by Flore Maquin) was taken in 1954 during the shooting of "The Short Point", named after the fishing district of Sète. Silvia Monfort and Philippe Noiret were the stars of this feature film shot in natural settings.

Agnès Varda was chosen thirteen times in the Official Selection, was a member of the Jury in 2005, President of the Jury of the Camera d'Or in 2013 and received a Palme d'honneur in 2015.
The Cannes Film Festival will open on May 14, with the screening of The Dead Do not Die from Jim Jarmusch. The announcement of the official selection of other films in the running will be announced Thursday, April 18, 2019.
