After the AirPods 3 this year, it will be the turn of the AirPods Pro 2 to hit the track next year, according to many rumors. Today, the MacRumors site is sharing images with us that are supposed to show us these future models. The headphones would look a lot like the current models: it would simply lack the optical sensor under the head of each earbud, replaced by a skin-sensing sensor like on the AirPods 3. There would also be two modifications to the case, with a clip for a hand strap on the side and holes for speakers on the bottom.
These speakers would be used for the Locate feature, which would allow the box to emit a sound to be more easily found in case of misplacement. However, it would be possible to emit sound without a visible grid, and the presence of holes on each side of the connector suggests a more substantial stereo use (unless it is only an aesthetic desire for symmetry). These images, coming from a source called Xerxes whose history cannot be established, are in any case to be taken with the greatest hindsight as long as the usual big names (Mark Gurman, Ming-Chi Kuo, etc.) do ‘have not corroborated anything. It could indeed be only Chinese counterfeits …
Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo both confirmed this summer that Apple was working on new AirPods Pro that would be devoid of any external rod, but without knowing if this new design had been accepted. There was also talk of new sports tracking features. These two very good sources have not returned to the subject since.
