Mettmann. “Aktion Mensch” supports the Mettmann food bank with a grant of 37,500 euros.

Despite the corona pandemic, Tafel Mettmann was able to resume its work to care for families in need after just a few weeks in spring 2020 and to continue without further interruption.

The necessary renovation measures were made possible by the support of many Mettmann citizens and financial help from private individuals, support programs of the state government, the Tafel Deutschland and “Aktion Mensch”, which contributed 37,500 euros in funding for personnel and material costs to the corona-safe renovation of the Tafel.

“To be there for others, especially in times of crisis”, that was one of the goals of the Tafel in the past few months. “We had to completely reorganize ourselves, find replacement staff, as our volunteer employees themselves belong to the risk group and carry out a lot of conversion and protective measures,” says head Gisela Fleter.

More than 400 families, many of them with children, and individuals are entitled to use the board. Volunteers organize the business and pass on donated and high-quality food and other products that are no longer commercially used to people in need. Many volunteers also got in touch during the pandemic and supported the food bank in Mettmann.
