Albert Heijn tests cash payment at self-scan checkout | NOW

Supermarket group Albert Heijn placed a so-called cash recycler in a renovated store for the first time on Tuesday. You can also pay for the groceries that you scan yourself with cash at the device. A spokesperson for AH said this when asked.

You can pay with both bills and coins. The device then returns change, the spokesperson said. The supermarket is now testing the concept in a converted store in Pijnacker, South Holland.

“The intention is that as many stores as possible will be equipped with it,” said the spokesperson. People who prefer to do everything themselves can do that too. The spokesperson emphasizes that the cash register with an employee behind it will also continue to exist.
