The suspense continues in League 1. This Monday, January 16, the representatives of the clubs Lima Alliance, University of SportsMelgar, Cienciano, Deportivo Municipal, Cusco FC, Binacional and Sport Boys, as well as SAFAP, held a press conference, in which they showed their position and confirmed that they will not participate in the 2023 championship, until the precautionary measure is lifted. imposed by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).

“After an analysis of the eight teams that are here, hWe have decided not to participate in the tournament until the precautionary measure is lifted”mentioned Sergio Ludueña, maximum representative of Cienciano, who was in charge of publicizing the position of the teams present at the press conference.

In the same way, fernando salazarcurrent manager of Lima Allianceregretted that the fans are affected by the precautionary measure, which was filed by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF): “I consider that one of the big affected is the fan. This clearly undermines that possibility of encouraging his team. We see the tournament as unfeasible without the participation of the eight clubs”.

University of Sportsthrough its legal representative, Adrian Gilabertalso referred to the statement from the highest entity of Peruvian football and assured that “precautionary measures are not questionable by the parties”. “This suspends contracts and makes no distinction between who can play. That said, the clubs present at the press conference decided not to participate in the local tournament until the precautionary measure can be lifted. As mentioned by all the representatives, who share the same position, expect a prompt response from the FPF, with the aim of being able to analyze and resolve the differences that exist between both parties.

Background

The conflict over broadcasting rights goes back to the management that was granted to the clubs in 2013 and that by 2021 was going to be ‘returned’ to the FPF, through the application of the new Statutes, which were approved in the Assembly of Bases and that had the approval of FIFA. In them it was specified that the Federation would retake control of television rights, so they would be the ones who would negotiate with the highest bidder for the broadcast of matches.

This triggered a series of measures, both by the clubs that did not agree and by the FPF, which received legal support on December 16, after the Seventh Commercial Court of Lima issued a precautionary measure in its favor. and against the Consortium, which ordered the suspension of the new contracts for television rights signed between that company and some clubs in League 1 until the end of said process.

So far, there has been no clear solution to the conflict. Even the presentations of the clubs have not been able to be televised through the channel that maintained their transmission rights, as was GOLPERU. Only Alianza Lima managed to reach an agreement with Latina so that their ‘Tarde Blanquiazul’ match was seen, while the ‘Poet Night’ and ‘Cream Night’ were seen through the clubs’ social networks.
