Amazing Toyota Yaris is arriving, it’s almost a road race car

Almost two days after the world premiere of the Toyota GR Yaris, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) unveiled an even more fiery version of the intrepid urban sports car. The GRMN Yaris version, which used the previously introduced nomenclature, promises an enhanced driving experience – albeit for very few.

The motorsport specialist subsidiary of the Toyota Group has further developed the model based on live racing experience and direct feedback from drivers. It was not a theoretical support, as the racing cars, based on a 261-horsepower turbocharged engine and tunable all-wheel-drive all-wheel drive model, took part in a number of Japanese championships. In the Super Taikyu series, Akio Toyoda, among others, was behind the wheel of the ROOKIE Racing GR Yaris, while the GR YARIS GR4 Rally was crowned the absolute winner at the Japanese Rally Championship last year.

Based on this experience, TGR considered that no higher engine power was required, but radically retuned all other components of the model. The bonnet, roof plate and rear spoiler are made of carbon fiber composite, the rear seats have been removed; the modifications reduced the vehicle’s curb weight by approximately 20 kilograms; the center of gravity was brought even lower by planting the chassis 10 mm. 545 extra welds and 12 meters more structural adhesive were used in the production, resulting in a noticeably stiffer body. The body was widened by 10 mm for better aerodynamics.

Modified gear ratios were used in the powertrain: the first four gears were reduced for better acceleration, and shorter gears were used, and durability is enhanced by the low-carbon SNCM steels and special surface hardening process used in the production of gears. In addition, the front and rear partially self-locking differentials in the standard model have been redesigned.

The GRMN Yaris (officially known as the GR Yaris GRMN) will be manufactured at the Motomachi plant, reserved for the most special types in the Toyota Group, essentially by hand. The distribution will start in the summer of 2022, but due to the expected significant interest, the orders will not be received in order of arrival: the available cars will be distributed among the registered interested parties on March 9.

If you want a rarer design than the 500-piece series, you can order the Circuit Package, of which only 50 pieces are produced. This includes custom 18-inch BBS wheels, larger brake discs, adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, as well as a side skirt and front spoiler apron.

Another package is available without limitation: the Rally Package, which includes special Gazoo Racing parts: shock absorbers, shorter anti-roll bars, lower guards and a roll bar.
