Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos launches a philanthropic fund worth $ 2 billion

Jeff Bezos, Chief Executive Officer of Amazon.com Inc, launched the "Bezos Day One Fund" on Thursday, a new philanthropic initiative with an initial commitment of $ 2 billion for homeless families and the creation of low-income preschools populations.

The fund will be split between the Day 1 Families Fund and the Day 1 Academies Fund.

"The Day 1 Families Fund will provide shelter and hunger relief to organizations and civil society groups that perform compassionate, needle-sensitive work to meet the immediate needs of young families," Bezos said in a tweet

The Day 1 Academies Fund will establish and operate a network of high-quality, Montessori-inspired, full-time pre-schools in underserved communities.

Bezos, with an estimated wealth of more than $ 160 billion, is currently the richest man in the world, according to Forbes.
