AMD has just announced that its Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processors will arrive at major integrators from July 2022. These processors should be available for the DIY market later this year.
To better support the creative and professional community, the Threadripper platform will use a single “common infrastructure” starting with the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX model. There will be only one chipset and one socket for the CPU and each processor will use AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO silicon with 128 PCIe Gen 4 lanes and 8-channel RDIMM support. Select WRX80 motherboards from select ODM partners will support memory and CPU overclocking for users looking to push their workstation performance to the max.
Finally, the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series will use the WRX80 chipset and customers with an existing WRX80-based motherboard will be able to upgrade to the Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processors with a simple BIOS update.
