AMLO celebrates Petro’s triumph as President of Colombia, progressive movement advances in America

Mexico City.- To the rhythm of the Pollera Colora, performed by Margarita, the Goddess of Cumbia, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) confided this Monday that the winner of the Colombian presidential elections, Gustavo Petro, “we are going to work together,” he said after congratulating him.

“The progressive movement advances, we are going to insist on the integration of the entire American continent,” he reiterated.

In the morning conference, López Obrador said several times that he was happy “for what Colombians did, we are not talking about anything, we are talking about centuries of domination by groups that did not really care about the people.”

He indicated that he was happy because “we are beginning a new stage in the resurgence of democratic movements with a social dimension in Latin America and the Caribbean,”

He said that conservatism was returning in America and there were few countries with progressive governments, but since he became president of Mexico “a new stage begins and there are important triumphs.”

López Obrador showed in the Treasury Hall the congratulations he made on social networks after the presidential elections in Colombia, and repeated; “Gustavo Petro’s triumph is historic”

Faced with criticism of why he took days to congratulate Joe Bien while he did so immediately with Gustavo Petro, he expressed that “they are different things.”

Due to the triumph of Gustavo Petro in Colombia, López Obrador preferred to put on the cumbia “La Pollera Colora’”, performed by Margarita “La Diosa de la Cumbia”, and not a calf.

“When we were in the opposition, Margarita agreed to sing in the Zócalo, when other artists refused,” he recalled.
