Google has just brought AMP Stories Support for WordPress publishers on their latest AMP plugin update, Publishers who want to create AMP stories need to install the latest version of the Gutenberg plug-in, as the Stories Editor relies on features that are not included in the core versions of WordPress.
Why should we care?
The AMP WordPress plugin is nothing new, but the fact that AMP stories can now be created in WordPress makes it much more inviting to marketers already familiar with the CMS. If you already use WordPress' user roles to manage content from multiple contributors, those contributors can also create AMP stories to enrich their content.
What can we do with it?
Publishers using WordPress 5.0 (or later) with the latest version of the Gutenberg and AMP plugins can:
- Create AMP Story pages by dragging and dropping blocks
- Add elements such as text, videos and images
- Animate the text
- Set background color and opacity
- Determine the order of the AMP story pages
- Manage AMP stories as part of WordPress
Gutenberg is a page editor created by WordPress to make adding multimedia content easier. AMP stories have to be created because they use Gutenberg's rich media management architecture.
