These are the first images of a football coach who was found dead in a Stoke apartment this weekend – when an 18-year-old man appeared in court today and was charged with murder.
Megan Newton, 18, was remembered as a "beautiful young woman" after she was found in the apartment on Saturday afternoon.
18-year-old Joseph Trevor was charged with murdering the teenager and appeared this morning at the North Staffordshire Justice Center in Newcastle.
Megan's family today paid tribute to the promising young teenager with a statement, "We just can not believe what happened, our hearts are broken and our family is devastated.
"Meg was a beautiful young woman who had everything to live on.
"She was very athletic, she loved playing football and gave up her weekends to work as an assistant coach to under-7s.
"She loved working with children, studied sports at college and held three jobs at the same time, and Meg had plans for the future – she was so independent and she knew what to do with her life, and we were all behind her every step of the way the way and would have done everything for her.
"She was a young woman in the prime of life, so precious and loving and so much of our lives, we simply worshiped her.
"Family meant everything to Meg and we all have problems with what happened, it just does not feel real."
Tears in the court
The accused murderer Trevor stood today with his hands behind his back when he appeared in court.
The hearing was attended by members of Megan's family and Trevor's family, as well as detectives from Staffordshire police.
Dressed in jeans and a dark gray lined jacket, Trevor spoke only to confirm his date of birth and address, then sat with his head in his hand as prosecutor Stuart Quinn spoke.
Mr. Quinn said, "This matter can only be heard before a judge and a jury in the Crown Court. This court has no powers to proceed on bail. "
The teenager was detained in custody.
He seemed tearful when he was taken to the cells after five minutes of the hearing.
Trevor will be appearing next Thursday at the Stafford Crown Court.
The court's appearance came when a photo of the teenager was revealed, showing how he played in the Newcastle Town Gate in May 2017.
"I was already a complete message"
Friends called Stoke City fan Megan, whose cause of death is not yet known, "open-minded," "fun," and "amazing."
The best friend of Megan, Ricardo Eccles, 18, wanted to go shopping the day after her discovery with the former student.
He said, "When I got the call to say it was Meg, I was so shocked. I did not want to believe it at first.
"I've been completely upset for a couple of days, but I have to try to pull myself together for Meg.
"Her life was cruelly cut in her best years, she was just 18 years old and she had her whole life ahead of her.
"We had planned to go to Manchester on Sunday, it's just heartbreaking."
"REST IN PARADISE, YOU ANGEL"
Stoke City fans applauded football-mad Megan for one minute against Norwich City on Easter Monday in the Premier League.
Floral tributes were left outside the apartments where Megan's body was found.
One read: "Rest in paradise, you angel."
Ricardo and Megan had lived on the same street but would still meet regularly.
He added, "She was a really bubbly person and had a really open-minded personality.
"She was there for everyone who needed her, she was there for her friends with one click, she was an amazing person.
"My biggest memory of her is her amazing smile, she had the smile that meant you could not help but smile.
"She was just a normal teenager, we sat together, watched movies and went shopping, I remember she got a Halloween costume and she looked absolutely stunning.
"She absolutely loved football, she was crazy about Stoke City, it was a real passion, she worked when she died to train little kids in football.
