The Mercedes-Benz W116 is the first car of the German brand that bore the now-famous name S-Class – originally S-Klasse.
The large sedan arrived on the market in 1972, so this year it celebrates its 50th birthday, production lasted until 1980. The W116 was replaced by the W126 generation.
The first S-Klasse is an interesting car, Mercedes placed a lot of emphasis on safety, it also equipped it with, for example, anti-lock braking system ABS (from autumn 1978), the driving characteristics were raised to a new level by the front double wishbone suspension and we can also mention the storage of the fuel tank above the rear correction. This solution better protected her in the event of an impact.
Just one interesting example of the first class S appeared for sale in the Czech Republic. Mototechna Classic offers a car that caught our attention with its low mileage and excellent condition. It is the most popular version of the 280 SE, of which, according to available information, 150,593 units were produced. In total, the German automaker produced 473,035 W116 cars.
The sedan offered by Mototechna was put into service for the first time in 1979. The color scheme, combining the orange-brown body with caramel leather and wooden decors in the interior, corresponds perfectly to this period.
According to the seller, the Mercedes has been renovated and, at least in the photos, it looks really good. And the aforementioned low ramp? We find only 35,278 kilometers on the odometer.
The 280 SE version is powered by a 2,746 cc inline six-cylinder petrol engine equipped with indirect electronic injection. The maximum power is 136 kW at 5800 Nm, the highest torque is 240 Nm at 4500 rpm.
The engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. According to official data, the W116 280 SE with an automatic gearbox accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds, travels up to 195 km/h and consumes an average of 12.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
Equipment includes radio, power windows or power steering. An interesting sedan is for sale for 690 thousand crowns.
