Ana Bogdan and the curse of the second round at the French Open: Românca, dramatically defeated in Paris

Romania approached the second round of the French Open 2020 with five players, but two of them are already on their way home. In fact, Irina Begu (72 WTA) was defeated by another Romanian, Simona Halep (2 WTA), who is also the favorite for the trophy.

Today, in another match of the second round, Ana Bogdan (93 WTA) was defeated by the Australian Open champion, Sofia Kenin (6 WTA). The 21-year-old American won in three sets, score, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Unfortunately, Bogdan was unable to take advantage of Kenin’s sluggish form. Sofia played only one match on this surface, before the French Open, being defeated by Azarenka (14 WTA) in Rome: 0-6, 0-6! Even in the first round of the French Open, she did not do very well, needing three sets, in the confrontation with Samsonova (125 WTA), which she won, however, with 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

In the third round, Kenin will play with either Irina Bara (142 WTA) or Van Uytvanck (65 WTA).

Ana Bogdan will collect 84,000 euros for reaching the second round at the French Open 2020. Here are her results, in the five participations at Roland Garros:

*2015: Round I qualifiers

*2017: Round I

*2018: Round II

*2019: Round II qualifiers

*2020: Round II
