Andy Kaufman enters the WWE Hall of Fame in the class of 2023, announces the American site Variety. Kaufman, an actor and comedian who played Latka Gravas on the television series “Taxi,” made his foray into the world of wrestling during a feud with Jerry Lawler in Memphis. The storyline went so far as to land an appearance in 1982 on NBC’s David Letterman’s Late Show, during which Lawler slapped Kaufman.
This storyline was the first involving a wrestler and a national celebrity and began after Kaufman, who was posing as a “cross-gender” champion to challenge women to beat him, met Jerry Lawler. in Memphis resulted in a game.
Andy Kaufman died in 1984 of lung cancer at the age of 35.
