Anirudh Thapa, ATK Mohun Bagan tried to sign Chennaiyin FC captain Anirudh Thapa but move failed

One of the biggest missed transfers of the 2022-2023 season was ATK Mohun Bagan FC’s move to Chennaiyin FC for the midfielder. ATK Mohun Bagan, who came forward with the aim of strengthening the team for the 2022-2023 season, approached the superstar as a huge offer. However, Chennaiyin FC imposed an even bigger clause on the player.

ATK Mohun Bagan tried to acquire Aniriudh Thapa, the number seven of the Indian national team and the captain of Chennaiyin FC and the midfielder superstar. The Kolkata club offered a five-year contract and a huge fee for Anirudh Thapa. Had that happened, 24-year-old Anirudh Thapa would have held the record of being the highest paid Indian player.
However, ATK Mohun Bagan’s effort was not successful.

Anirudh Thapa’s special release/transfer clause was another major reason why Anirudh Thapa turned down ATK Mohun Bagan’s offer. There is a clause in the contract that gives special treatment to Anirudh Thapa.

After failing to acquire Aniruddha Thapa, ATK Mohun Bagan acquired Malayali left winger Ashique Kuruniyan from Bengaluru FC. However, ATK Mohun Bagan’s biggest move in the 2022-2023 pre-season transfer was the signing of Florentine Pogba, brother of French midfielder Paul Pogba.
