Peugeot is an old supplier to the French Ministry of the Interior – their relationship jumped to a level when police and gendarmes bought significant quantities from the lion brand in late 2020: the two organizations ordered a total of 1,263 Peugeot 5008 recreational vehicles.
By November 2022, the crossovers, equipped with a 130-horsepower petrol engine and ordered in a two-row design, will be handed over. A number of civilian cars have also been added to the authorities ’fleet, and now a new public procurement will add Peugeot 3008s to the existing crossovers.
The decision was not only justified by the extremely low fuel costs associated with plug-in hybrid technology, but also by the ability to operate in a practical, completely quiet environment during patrols. The fact that the French Ministry of the Interior is placing increasing emphasis on emissions from its vehicle fleet also played a role in the choice.
Authorities have ordered a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid front-wheel drive with 225 horsepower and eight-speed automatic transmission. With a battery capacity of 13.2 kWh, the model can cover up to 56 kilometers in pure electric mode, with a standard average consumption of 1.4 liters / 100km. Due to their high engine power, they can serve as an intervention vehicle.
This 395 car has been handed over to the gendarmerie for the time being, but is also expected to be ordered for the French police from plug-in hybrid recreational vehicles as early as 2022.
In addition to the French police and gendarmerie, law enforcement agencies in other nations also prefer to buy Peugeots. For example, the first hybrid police cars appeared on the Roman ring road in 2014: the specially designed Peugeot 508 RXH Stradale was in many ways the predecessor to the modern Peugeot 3008 Hybrid.
Between 2015 and 2020, more than 5,000 Peugeots were on duty in the police and fire brigades in England. The UK authorities use the full range of the brand, from vans (Partner, Expert, Boxer) to cars (208, 308, 308 SW) to RVs (3008, 5008).
Of the electric e-208s considered to be the most exciting specimens in the fleet, more than 80 had already served in the UK in the autumn of 2020. During the Covid period, Peugeot provided the organization with extra rental cars free of charge to enable uniformed people to perform their increased duties.
