The front Ansu fati, of the FC Barcelona, the attacker Adama traore, of the Wolverhampton, and the central Eric García, of the Manchester City, are three of the main novelties of the Spanish coach Luis Enrique Martinez to measure up to Germany (September 3 in Stuttgart) and Ukraine (September 6 in Madrid) in matches of the Nations League.
A year and a half after his last call-up as coach on March 15, 2019, Luis Enrique gave his first list after retaking command of the Spanish senior team.
On the Asturian coach’s list, several players from the Under-21 team stand out, such as Ansu Fati, Oscar Rodríguez, Eric García and Ferrán Torres, who will have their chance with the senior team after a good campaign in their respective clubs.
Other novelties are Adama traore, author of six goals this last season as a forward for the Wolves (where he paired with Raul Jimenez), and Navarrese midfielder Mikel Merino, who last season had a prominent leading role at Real Sociedad and scored five goals.
At 23 years old, and after defending Athletic’s goal 37 times this last year, Unai Simón joins the list of goalkeepers in which David De Gea and Kepa Arrizabalaga continue to be and from which he falls, compared to the last list by Robert Moreno, Pau López.
In the chapter on absences, those of central Iñigo Martínez, who was injured in training with Athletic, also stand out; Barcelona side Jordi Alba, international on 70 occasions; and midfielders Isco Alarcón and Saúl Ñiguez.
“We compete without the public and the fans, but the day is closer to recovering normalcy. We are eager to see the players and get together,” said Luis Enrique, on the social networks of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, after revealing the summoned list.
The summoned list is made up of 24 players.
