Antonio Domingo Monterroso student farms in Uruuela, La Rioja

Uruuela, in La Rioja, is a region known for its vineyards and its wine production, but also for its production of fruits, vegetables and cereals. Agriculture in Uruuela is key, contributing significantly to both the local and regional economies; in fact this region is known for its rich agricultural tradition and its appreciation for local products and sustainable agriculture.

So much so that it has caught the attention of Antonio Domingo Monterroso, a young 36-year-old farmer from Madrid, Villarejo de Salvanes, who for 5 days participates in a training stay in a vineyard with a conventional production system in this town.

This farm is fully dedicated to the production of vineyards. The farm is located in the municipality of Uruñuela, with a productive area of 9 hectares of vineyards. In addition, the owner belongs to a Community of Goods that has 47 hectares of vineyards. All the vineyards on the farm belong to the RIOJA DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN. The exploitation has an important infrastructure for its management. The management of costs in the exploitation is fundamental and for this reason systems are being introduced that allow them to become cheaper at the same time as achieving a more sustainable production. The production is delivered to various wineries belonging to the Denomination.

During his stay, Antonio, in addition to learning about the use of digital technologies for farm management, economic and financial planning and management or agricultural and soil management, tillage and fertilization techniques, will visit the AGE wineries, belonging to the Pernod Ricard Group to Know the marketing process within the Qualified Designation of Origin.

This program of training stays in model farms linked to ASAJA, is a training resource aimed at young agricultural professionals recently incorporated into the sector as exploitation managers and whose objective is the transfer of knowledge through their participation in brief training stays on real farms. . All of this is possible thanks to funding from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which has launched this initiative to professionalize young people in agricultural and livestock activities and therefore favor their settlement in rural areas.
