Apple is working on at least four new Macs with M2 processor variants

In its latest edition of To light up bulletin, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman talks about the new Mac M2s he expects Apple to unveil during the cycle of this new processor. With this in mind, the journalist mentions the versions of the M2 chip that Apple will probably unveil in the coming months: Pro, Ultra, Max and Extreme.

According to Gurman, these are the devices and chips that could be seen on upcoming Macs:

  • a Mac mini M2.
  • a Mac mini M2 Pro.
  • M2 Pro and M2 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
  • the M2 Ultra and the M2 Extreme Mac Pro.

A new Mac mini has been rumored for a while. As of now, it’s unclear when Apple plans to unveil the next-gen or when it will drop its Intel counterpart.

For the next generation of MacBook Pros, it makes sense for Apple to update them with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. As the company has just announced an entry-level MacBook Pro that looks exactly like the 2020 model but with an M2 chip inside, Apple will need to update the 14-inch and 16-inch variants in the near future that have a new design and more port.

Finally, Mark Gurman thinks a Mac Pro with M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme chips is coming in this cycle. It’s important to note that Apple has announced in the past that the company was working on a new Mac Pro, but never said anything else after that.

Interestingly, the reporter doesn’t mention a 24-inch iMac M2 variant. On the other hand, Gurman has already reported that Apple is working on an iMac M3, which means that product could skip the current chip generation and only get a refresh later next year.
