A flying sculpture at the art fair Art Basel has obviously made a lasting impression on a three-year-old girl. According to media reports, the child is said to have grabbed the artwork of the German sculptor Katharina Fritsch from the stroller. The fly fell to the ground and the wings broke. The damage is great: he should be around 50,000 euros. that's the value that the gallery estimates for the sculpture.
Gallery employees are said to have promptly confronted the mother, who was close to tears. It also states that the child should have been ashamed.
Art lovers have other worries
Art lovers are doing something quite different than the concern for damages: "The problem is less who is paying for the damage," said a Berlin art dealer. "Even if you reassemble the artwork, it is no longer the untouched work of before."
The 50th edition of Art Basel ended on Sunday with a slight decline in visitors. The 290 exhibiting galleries from 34 countries attracted 93,000 visitors from 80 nations.
