Atalanta Bergamo, Lazio Rome, and Roma all made a comeback on Sunday during the 18th day of Serie A, coming within three points of Juventus (3rd) and Inter Milan (4th). Atalanta Bergamo had a big win over Salernitana (8-2), Lazio dominated Sassuolo (2-0) despite the early injury of Ciro Immobile, and Roma secured a victory over Fiorentina thanks to a double from Paulo Dybala (2-0). This caused a regrouping of contenders for the Champions League, behind an escaped Napoli and big favorite for the scudetto after their demonstration against the Bianconeri (5-1).
Atalanta Bergamo’s young Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, 19, made an impact by causing two penalties and scoring the goal of 5-1. Jérémie Boga and Ademola Lookman also contributed with a goal each. Despite the loss to Napoli, Juventus are still a great team and Atalanta’s coach Gian Piero Gasperini warned that their match against them will be difficult but will give them indications of their growth.
Salernitana’s new goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was martyred and beaten eight times. His coach Davide Nicola did not seek an excuse for the defeat and said that it was due to the lack of determination.
Meanwhile, Paulo Dybala was spectacular in the evening to offer Roma a precious success over Fiorentina. Mattia Zaccagni opened the scoring from the penalty spot (45+3rd) and Felipe Anderson sealed the victory (90+4th) for Lazio. Unfortunately, Maurizio Sarri’s team had to deal with the early exit of Ciro Immobile, who was replaced in the 15th minute due to discomfort in the right thigh.
Atalanta Bergamo’s victory is a hit and Lazio and Roma ensured that they are still in the running for the Champions League.
