Experts ESET found that the attackers used Android-users for mining.
According to the company, Google Play distributed a malicious application Monero Miner (XMR) developer My Portable Software. The program obtained the Montero crypto currency in a mobile browser. The sum of the XMR wizards was displayed in a special window.
Monero Miner did produce crypto currency. However, all the funds went to the developer, regardless of what address purse indicated by the user during the configuration of the application.
Despite the low rating and negative feedback, the application has installed up to 50,000 users. After warning ESET specialists, the miner was removed from Google Play.
ESET recommends downloading mobile applications for mining, having previously studied the number of downloads, ratings and feedback from other users.
