Audio – Apple announces new HomePod

Apple has announced the second generation of the HomePod – the smart speaker from this manufacturer.

For a long time it was pretty quiet around Apple’s smart speaker(s). The original HomePod was retired and replaced with a cheaper and smaller one. That thing was quite popular. And so Apple seems to follow up on the HomePod in the form of the announced second generation HomePod. Equipped with a touch surface and – of course – seamless integration into the Apple ecosystem (including Siri), a solid whole must be created. The specially developed bass driver can move the diaphragm up to 20 mm, while five tweeters arranged in a ring shape provide an all-round sound.

The S7 chip controls the whole thing and delivers ‘computational audio’. Space recognition allows reflections to be detected; the HomePod determines whether it is against a wall or freestanding. Then adjust the sound accordingly. It is possible to connect multiple HomePods and HomePod Minis for even more flexibility. The newcomer is available from February 3, where you can choose from a black or white version. Price: €349.
