The Augsburg Panthers have to tremble about staying in the DEL – and can no longer exert any influence. The view goes towards DEL2.
Die Augsburg Panther are in a situation no team wants to be in. And also no player, manager or fan. The season in the German Ice Hockey League (OF THE) is over – and still there is uncertainty. The traditional club of German ice hockey has to look down to find out whether the season will end with relegation. The Panther professionals can no longer intervene. That means powerlessness and uncertainty, also for the fans. We will keep you up to date on the chances of staying up in the DEL.
Does the AEV descend? The scenarios look at the DEL2
The decision as to whether the AEV has to go into the DEL2 will be made in the DEL2 play-offs in 2023. This is because it is not yet certain whether a team from the DEL2 will be promoted. If that’s the case, the Panthers, as penultimate in the DEL, have to go into the second division together with the Bietigheim Steelers, who have definitely been relegated. The special feature of the DEL2 is the fact that only three teams have applied for a license for the DEL. As a result, there is only one promoted if one of the following three teams wins the championship in the DEL2 play-offs:
- Kassel Huskies
- Krefeld penguins
- Dresden ice lions
For all those who stick with the Augsburg Panthers, the only thing that remains is the anxious look towards the DEL2 play-offs. If Kassel, Krefeld or Dresden prevail in the DEL2 play-offs, the AEV will be relegated to the DEL. But how likely is that? We give you an overview.
DEL2 play-offs: This is the starting position for Kassel, Krefeld and Dresden
The bad news for the Panthers first: Kassel, Krefeld and Dresden have all qualified for the DEL2 play-offs in 2023. What’s exciting is that two of the teams, Krefeld and Dresden, will meet in the quarter-finals. This will be held in “Best of 7” mode. A team must win four games to advance to the semifinals. The pairings at a glance:
- Kassel Huskies – Lusatian foxes
- Krefeld penguins – Dresden ice lions
- ESV Kaufbeuren – EC Bad Nauheim
- Ravensburg Towerstars – EV Landshut
As winners of the main round, the Kassel Huskies are favorites in the DEL2 play-offs in 2023. All AEV fans should therefore keep an eye on the following dates:
- Wednesday, March 15, 2023: 7:30 p.m., Kassel Huskies – Lusatian foxesResult: 4:1
- Friday, March 17, 2023: 7:30 p.m., Lusatian foxes – Kassel Huskies
- Sunday, 03/19/2023: 5:00 p.m., Kassel Huskies – Lusatian foxes
- Tuesday, March 21, 2023: 7:30 p.m., Lusatian foxes – Kassel Huskies
- Friday, March 24th, 2023: 7:30 p.m., Kassel Huskies – Lusatian foxes (if necessary)
- Sunday, 03/26/2023: 5:00 p.m., Lusatian foxes – Kassel Huskies (if necessary)
- Tuesday, March 28, 2023: 7:30 p.m., Kassel Huskies – Lusatian foxes (if necessary)
If the Huskies were to reach the semi-finals of the DEL2 play-offs, they would face either Krefeld or Dresden. Then there would be a duel again between two teams who absolutely want to get promoted. As a result, the AEV fans would definitely only know after the final in the DEL2 play-offs whether the Panthers would play in the DEL or the DEL2 in the coming season. In this article we will keep you up to date on further developments.
