Pat Cummins took his 100th place in the international one-day cricket to put Australia at the top in the first ODI against South Africa before the hosts joined.

Cummins, who previously eliminated Temba Bavuma (26), caused Kyle Verreynne (48) to be caught in the square leg to reach the milestone and finish with a 78-run position in the fourth wicket.

South Africa is 4-262 after 47 overs, with Heinrich Klaasen (106) and David Miller (58) in the fold.

Mitchell Starc took a single ball to hit after Australia was sent to the field, catching Janneman Malan before Josh Hazlewood caught Quinton de Kock by 15.

With the Twenty20 series made and dusted, Australia and South Africa have launched new looking XI for the first international one-day.

Australia has left out Matthew Wade, Kane Richardson and Ashton Agar by Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Hazlewood and D’Arcy Short, while batters Malan, Temba Bavuma, Kyle Verreynne and spinner Keshav Maharaj were brought by South Africa.

Kagiso Rabada is out of the series with a groin injury.
