(VOVWORLD) – The SunRice Group – Australia’s largest rice trader – will work with Australian and Vietnamese researchers to develop a new rice variety.

This rice variety is said to help farmers adapt to climate change and offers opportunities to increase rice exports from Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. A note published in The Australian Financial Review indicated that this project will help farmers grow higher value crops amid freshwater scarcity and salinity caused by climate change. The four-year project will involve the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the University of Queensland, An Giang University, Can Tho University, the Mekong Delta Rice Institute and Mekong Delta provincial farmers and authorities carried out.
