Vodafone is expanding an existing partnership with VMware. As part of its Tech 2025 strategy, the telecommunications company wants to automate and orchestrate all workloads in the European core networks via a single platform. Vodafone’s 5G cellular network is being used as a “standalone” network (5G5G SA) has been switched to the next stage of development and should do without the previous LTE technology.

Vodafone has already introduced the Telco cloud infrastructure in 2020 in all European business areas. The company speaks of productivity gains, as the network functions went online around 40 percent faster, and of cost savings of up to 55 percent.

Now we need to turn our attention to automation, software engineering and the cloud-native principles to operate to simplify and accelerate the deployment of new applications. “
After the introduction of 5G SA, the group is taking on further digital network functions that use a cloud-native architecture operated by VMware. These include Voice-over-Internet as well as the next generation of video conferencing and virtual /Augmented RealityAugmented Reality.
