Will Smith and Martin Lawrence announce that Bad Boys 4 is currently in pre-production, which Sony Pictures also confirms.
It is via Instagram that the 2 actors – imaptient and hyper-excited – shared the news, which however arrives when rumors said that the studio had been cooled by the unfortunate slap that Smith had given Chris Rock during the ceremony of the Oscars in 2022. However, Sony boss Tom Rothman disputed the rumors, saying the film was in development. With this recent confirmation, fans can finally be reassured to see their favorite sleuths back on the job.
Sony also revealed that Adil El Arbi and Billall Fallah, the co-directors of For Life, return to direct the fourth installment of the hit action crime franchise, and that the screenplay is written by Chris Bremner. Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad, Chad Oman and Smith will return as producers, while Lawrence, James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone will serve as executive producers, alongside Fallah and El Arbi.
Bad Boys For Life was released on the eve of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020, and was ultimately one of the biggest box office hits of the year, grossing a whopping $436 million.
To the saga Bad Boys began in 1995 with Lawrence and Smith in front of the camera of a certain Michael Bay. Busy family man Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) and millionaire playboy Mike Lowrey (Smith) have been Maimi Police detectives hunting down criminals and solving crimes for over 25 years. In the first opus, they had dismantled a network of drug traffickers against a certain Fouchet, played by Tchky Karyo. The outrageous action then exploded in Bad Boys 2 in 2003, then, nothing more until 2020. What will tell us Bad Boys 4, we do not know yet. If you remember, Lowry made a discovery related to his fickle youth. We’ll see.
